Whiskey Boat is a folk band based in Cairns, QLD.
Sea shanties, bush dances and a washboard keeping time: Whiskey Boat are a Far North Queensland folk band with a nautical streak. Sisters Lauren and Melissa Butler lead the band and write piratey jigs and indie ballads about the wild seas, with three-part harmonies over fiddle, flute, tin whistle and acoustic guitar. Originals like Ship Hit the Reef and Fire Down Below sit next to covers such as Whiskey in the Jar. They can also call a traditional bush dance, which gets every age group up. Book the acoustic trio or the full band with bass and drums; either plays up to three sets of 45 minutes. PA and lights are theirs. You supply a 3 by 3 metre space with power, shade outdoors and up to two hours to bump in. Cairns-based and insured, they travel up to 200 km.
