The Modern Bard is a folk singer based in Sydney, NSW.
Sea shanties, tavern songs, Celtic folk and music from Middle-earth are the stock in trade of The Modern Bard, a solo act on voice, guitar and ukulele. The repertoire runs past 70 songs, fantasy ballads included. The standard booking is three hours, played as three 50-minute sets, and a four-hour version is available. Shorter one or two-set spots work for festivals and weddings. You can take the mixed sets, or pick themed ones built around the sea, the tavern, folk or Middle-earth. Classical training in guitar and voice, plus a background in musical theatre and composition, sits behind it. The Bard runs a professional PA and needs about 2 x 2 metres near power, with cover outdoors. Old pubs, wineries, distilleries and country weddings suit it well. Home base is Sydney and the Hunter Valley, with bookings across NSW, and it's public liability insured.
