Romanian Folk Band

Very few of your guests will have heard this music live before. Romanian Folk Band play traditional lăutărească and Romani party music: breakneck instrumentals, drinking songs and old tunes from singers such as Gabi Lunca, Romica Puceanu, Victor Gore and Ion Onoriu. Tim Meyen leads on the țambal, a hammered cimbalom, with violin, accordion and double bass around him. Festival crowds know them from WOMADelaide, Floriade and the National Folk Festival. If there's a particular melody from the genre you want, ask them, since the odds are good it's already in their fingers. They bring a small PA and set it up before guests arrive, or work with your own sound operator. The band is based in Canberra, holds public liability insurance and travels nationwide.
