Sydney Jazz Tango is a Latin band based in Sydney, NSW.
Argentina is the starting point for Sydney Jazz Tango. The group blends traditional tango with classical and Latin influences, then opens things up with jazz solos. It began as a duo in 2009 and is now a sextet, playing classic tangos alongside original tango-inspired pieces. There are four shows to choose from. Cafe con Tango runs two hours with an interval, and can bring two tango dancers who dance to the traditional numbers in a cafe setting. Jazz-Infused Tango features Astor Piazzolla and newer tango composers, and Music from the Heartland of Tango covers Argentine music from the 1920s to today. Most shows are two 45-minute sets with a 30-minute break; a three-hour booking becomes three 40-minute sets. At the Argentine Embassy's request they played Canberra's National Argentine Day celebrations, and they've sold out concerts in Sydney, Newcastle, the Blue Mountains and the Central West.
