Sydney Acappella Group is an a cappella group based in Sydney, NSW.
Every sound in a Sydney Acappella Group set comes from a human voice. The group, also known as the Acappelicans, arrange songs people already know, so a set might jump from Disney and TV themes to jazz standards and musical theatre, with 60s pop, old ballads, current hits and a bit of 90s nostalgia in there too. For a wedding or cocktail party you can book four to six singers, while the full choir of eight to twelve suits a Christmas event or a bigger room. Friends at Sydney University started the group in 2012. It has since recorded two albums, written over 60 arrangements, sold out Sydney Fringe seasons and sung for the university in Hong Kong. At the 2015 Australian A Cappella Awards they placed third overall, and their takes on Rubber Duckie and Wouldn't It Be Loverly won Best Arrangement and Best Jazz Song. Past stages include the Seymour Centre, the Powerhouse Museum and the Sydney Festival.
