About
Cantabile is an a cappella group based in Sydney, NSW.
Most Cantabile bookings are a quartet singing four-part harmony, soprano, alto, tenor and bass, though the Sydney group can shrink to a duo or grow to eight voices. They sing a cappella or with instrumental backing, moving between traditional classical repertoire and jazz and pop arrangements. There's no bulky gear to set up: they arrive, sing and head off, so they slot easily into a wedding ceremony, a church service, a funeral, a shopping centre or a festival. At Christmas the quartet turns carollers, dressed in black with sparkly Santa hats or touches of red and green, roaming among guests, singing by the tree or giving a candlelit carols concert on stage. Every singer holds a university qualification in music. Tenor Damien Hall has sung with the Opera Australia chorus, alto Gisele Scales has toured schools for Musica Viva, and soprano Natalie Claire is a founding member.
