Los Chasquis

Pan pipes, bamboo flute and charango give Los Chasquis a sound you won't mistake for anyone else at a Perth function. In Quechua, spoken in the old Inca highlands, the name translates as the messengers. The band the band sings in Spanish, Aymara and Quechua as well as playing instrumental pieces. The music is haunting one minute and driving the next, carrying South American feeling along with European and African influence, with drums and guitar under the traditional instruments. Four players is the usual line-up, and solo, duo and trio versions are possible. They can play fully acoustic in a smaller space, with a sound system for a large audience. It's a striking choice for a cultural event, a themed dinner or a garden reception.
