Gerard Mapstone

Flamenco from a guitarist who went to Andalucía to learn it properly. Gerard Mapstone trained in classical guitar at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, where he won the classical guitar prize, then lived in Jerez de la Frontera and studied with a respected local flamenco guitarist. Time in England followed, playing flamenco fusion and taking lessons from Carlos Bonell, who teaches guitar at London's Royal College of Music. Since coming home he's played Tyalgum's classical festival, Woodford, the Queensland Music Festival and Noosa's jazz festival, plus the Festival of Colour across the Tasman. He has been a featured soloist alongside players from The Queensland Orchestra, and ABC Classic FM has broadcast him live. Because he moves between classical and flamenco, he can play quietly through a dinner or give a festival crowd something to watch. He's based in Brisbane.
