Funked Up Brass is a brass band based in Perth, WA.
Two trombones, three trumpets, three saxophones, a sousaphone and drums. Funked Up Brass put a lot of horn into one room, and three singers out front keep up a saucy running commentary between numbers. The sound grows out of the Dirty South street brass tradition, so a New Orleans standard like When the Saints Go Marching In sits beside hits from across the decades rebuilt for horns, Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing among them. Funk, R&B and jazz all fall inside their range. With that much brass, this is a band for getting people off their chairs, not for quiet dinner music, and it's at its best at a party or a big company night. Home is Perth, and the band covers up to 50 km from there.
