Plan it by the part of the day
The ceremony needs one or two players who can start and stop on cue and play softly outdoors. Drinks and dinner want background music people can talk over. The dancing is where a band or DJ earns its fee.
Plenty of couples book one act for the early hours and another for the night. Others book a band that can split, sending a soloist to the ceremony before the full line-up arrives.
Things to settle before you enquire
Your date, the venue, the hours you need music, roughly how many guests, and any song you cannot do without. With those in the enquiry, the quotes that come back are for your actual day.
Before you book
Do we need separate acts for the ceremony and the reception?
Not always. Many bands can send a soloist or duo for the ceremony and bring the full line-up later. Ask each act what it can cover when you enquire.
Can we choose the songs?
Usually. Most acts publish a song list and take requests. If a first dance song is not on it, ask whether they will learn it.
What happens after we enquire?
Each act you shortlisted sends a written quote for your date, so you can compare what is included before you decide.
Got a date and a venue?
Send them once, with the acts you like, and each one comes back with a written quote.
