The Sugarfoot Ramblers

Trumpet, trombone and clarinet up front, banjo, bass and drums behind: The Sugarfoot Ramblers play traditional jazz the old way. The Melbourne six-piece started after two of its players spent time in New Orleans, and the music draws on Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Sidney Bechet, along with Australian trad jazz heroes The Red Onions and The Hoodangers. Those two are Travis Woods, who plays trumpet, and drummer Daniel Berry, and the rest of the band is Jon Hunt's clarinet, James Macaulay's trombone, Jono Brown's bass and Matt Hayes's banjo. You can have them instrumental or with vocals. The Wangaratta, Stonnington and Bellingen jazz festivals are on their record, as are rooms like The Paris Cat, Uptown Jazz Cafe and Bennetts Lane. A themed party or a festival crowd suits them well, and they take weddings and corporate events too.
