The Hokey Carmichaels is a jazz band based in Sydney, NSW.
Pedal steel guitar and horns rarely share a stage, and that pairing is the whole sound of The Hokey Carmichaels. The Sydney group plays jazz and country swing standards, with tenor sax and cornet arranged around the steel, and a balance of sung numbers and instrumentals. Tico Tico, Tennessee Waltz, Stompin' at the Savoy, Choo Choo Ch'Boogie and Up a Lazy River are all on the list. Every note is live. They can keep things laid back or swing hard, and when you want plenty of uptempo tunes, the quintet becomes a sextet with a drummer. Expect 45-minute sets, two of them or three. They need a level playing area and power, though battery sound covers venues without it, and outdoor spots need shelter from sun, rain and wind. Insured, and within 50 km of Sydney.
