Sydney Polynesian Band

A single performer can open proceedings with a traditional welcoming chant, delivered as a warrior's challenge to the audience. From there, Sydney Polynesian Band shape the program around your event, drawing on dance and music from across the South Pacific. Options include a New Zealand Māori show with haka and poi, Hawaiian hula, Tahitian tamure, and a Samoan show with siva, slap dance and a fire dance performed by the men. Drum dances and action songs can be done by the men, the women or both, and the women also perform a popular solo dance. Behind them is a line of drummers playing in unison, with ukulele, acoustic guitar, traditional tokere drums, bass drum and congas, and together it carries the weight of a big band. The mood they aim for is joyful and calm, a trip across the Pacific without leaving the room. They're based in Sydney.
