Swing Manouche is a jazz band based in Brisbane, QLD.
Guitar and clarinet lead the way in Swing Manouche, a Brisbane five-piece playing gypsy jazz, the style Django Reinhardt pioneered. This project centres on the guitar and clarinet music from Django's war years in Paris. Ewan MacKenzie plays guitar and sings, with Miranda Deutsch on a second guitar, Peter Freeman on double bass, Kay Sullivan on accordion and vocals, and Dan Cosgrove doubling on clarinet and tenor sax. Ewan, Dan and Kay all improvise and compose, so the tunes have room to stretch. It's lyrical, lively music that works at a cocktail party, a French-themed dinner or a wine bar evening where people like to listen.
