Steve Crain is a jazz guitarist based in Sydney, NSW.
Steve Crain plays jazz for rooms where people are mingling, relaxed but polished. Book him solo, with his own arrangements of standards and pop tunes and a looper for layered guitar parts. Or add players: double bass for a duo, drums for a trio, then keys or a horn for a quartet. The standards cover swing, Latin, blues and ballads, and he'll tailor the list. The guitar, bass and drums trio also plays pop and rock as instrumentals, which Steve calls jazz in jeans. He also writes groove-based funk jazz, and those originals can go in the set. Regulars include Andrew Massey on drums, Peter Kohlhoff on bass and Barney Wakeford on Hammond and piano. He studied at the NSW Conservatorium and has 25 years of playing behind him. Sydney-based.
