Steve Barry

Steve Barry is a jazz pianist for an event where the music is there to be listened to. He's also an organist, composer and improviser, and his gigs take him around Australia and New Zealand, and lately to Japan and elsewhere in East Asia. The awards back it up. He took home a Bell Award in 2013, the same year he placed second at the National Jazz Awards, and he's been a Freedman Fellowship nominee and a finalist for APRA's Professional Development Awards. His albums are Puzzles and Steve Barry, plus Sakura with the Australia-Japan group Orbiturtle. He has played with Australians such as James Muller, Dale Barlow, Sean Wayland and Jamie Oehlers, as well as the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra, and with international names including Theo Bleckmann, John Hollenbeck and George Coleman Jr. He studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, finishing his jazz performance degree with first class honours, and he's based in Sydney.
