Sasha Gavlek

Double bass is Sasha Gavlek's instrument, and the music built around it leans toward folk, alternative jazz and a good deal of improvisation. Sasha is a Hobart bassist who also leads bands, composes, teaches and works as a visual artist, so the playing comes with a composer's sense of where a piece might wander next. In 2022 the Sasha Gavlek Quartet released On Second Thoughts, a debut album of all-original instrumental music. Before that, Sasha finished a Bachelor of Music at the UTAS Conservatorium in 2019. It's a sound for a small listening room or an unhurried dinner where people actually notice what the bass is doing.
