About
Roo Friend is a jazz band based in Brisbane, QLD.
Roo Friend plays baritone guitar, and down low it sounds a lot like a bass line in the Jaco Pastorius mould. Up high it bends toward BB King and Clarence Gatemouth Brown. The result is bluesy folk-jazz with some rock bite. He learned from Tommy Emmanuel and Ike Isaacs, played guitar for two years with Larry Muhoberac, and has worked with Normie Rowe, Col Joye, Little Pattie and the Long Way To The Top shows, plus theatre orchestras on guitar and banjo. Sets mix standards and covers with his own songs, which pick up community radio play around the world and carry a streak of humour. He plays on his own, adds a saxophonist for a duo, and brings in drums for the trio. Brisbane-based, and well suited to a relaxed bar or dinner crowd.
