Robin & Sons

Hard bop is the heart of Robin & Sons, a Brisbane jazz quartet playing straight-ahead jazz and some Latin numbers. They take their cue from 1950s and 60s records by Hank Mobley, Wayne Shorter and Art Blakey. The group dates from early 2025, when drummer Lochlan Robinson brought in Isaac Warland on double bass, pianist Lucius Reynolds and Sharon Elaine, who sings and plays trumpet. All four have trained in jazz at the Jazz Music Institute. The full quartet sometimes brings in a special guest, and smaller rooms can book a duo or trio instead. They can bring all the equipment needed, every member holds public liability insurance, and they'll travel up to 200 km. It's a band for a cocktail hour or a bar where people actually want to hear the solos.
