Precision Percussion

Precision Percussion turn up looking like a race team's pit crew, in bright orange overalls, hats and ear muffs, pushing a trolley loaded with car parts. Then they start playing it. Brake drums, wheel rims, hub caps, bell housings, chrome grilles, plastic barrels and an empty gas cylinder all become instruments, and the rhythms are tight. It's a send-up of pit crews killing time between races. The group moves through the grounds, chatting with people and coaxing them to dance as if the team has just won. They suit motor sport events best, plus festivals and community days where people are on the move. Their debut was at the Grand Prix Ball in Melbourne, and every player is a Melbourne percussionist with a street theatre background.
