About
Penny King Jazz is a jazz band based in Perth, WA.
Penny King fronts a quartet or quintet, and her arrangements take in modern versions of jazz standards as well as blues, ballads and contemporary songs. You'll hear the influence of singers such as Carmen McRae, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Joni Mitchell and Kurt Elling. She has led her band professionally since 1996 and plays often at the Ellington Jazz Club. Other stages include the Quarry Amphitheatre, the Rottnest Festival, the York Jazz Festival, the Fremantle International Jazz Festival and the Perth Jazz Society, where she was a featured singer at the Ladies of Jazz concerts for many years. She has sung alongside James Morrison and Dale Barlow, and with the Mike Pigneguy sextet she supported Dame Kiri Te Kanawa at her concert with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. A WAAPA jazz graduate, she teaches jazz vocals as well. For a corporate event, a wedding or a private function in Perth, it's jazz with real polish.
