Jazz Academy play the classics with rich, honest tones and a soul edge. The Sydney group come in sizes from two players to six, so the same sound scales from a small cocktail party to a gala dinner. Their own influences lean towards soul, hip hop and contemporary jazz, with Marvin Gaye, Erykah Badu, Kurt Elling, Donny Hathaway, Prince, Gretchen Parlato and Little Dragon among the names they list. What that means on the night is jazz standards played with a modern feel, well placed during drinks or dinner. They take weddings, corporate functions, exclusive events and private parties.
