Hammer Nine is a jazz band based in Perth, WA.
Hammer Nine is Libby Hammer's dance band, and its job is to get you out of your seat. Four horns give it brass, a four-piece rhythm section gives it funk, and Libby herself fronts the lot. The set is built on classics made famous by Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Etta James, Dusty Springfield, Sugar Pie DeSanto and Amy Winehouse. Most of the inspiration is 60s soul and Motown, rare grooves and raw rhythm and blues, but there's room for some zydeco, a rumba and a heavy backbeat shuffle too. Libby's taste for playful, sophisticated jazz still shows through. The Perth nine-piece suits a themed party, a wedding or a work function where dancing is the plan.
