Govinda Abbott

Govinda Abbott's trumpet suits a wedding ceremony or a slow afternoon reception, where relaxed, lovely playing sits under the day rather than over it. The repertoire covers the jazz standards, a strong Latin program, and funk and contemporary tunes. The training is deep. Govinda studied jazz at the Newtown School of Performing Arts and the Sydney Conservatorium, then did a master's in jazz and teaching in East Germany and stayed on for 15 years as a working musician. In Nepal he ran the brass and woodwind department at a jazz conservatory in Kathmandu. He has played in small groups and big bands, and made recent guest appearances with Galapagos Duck. All PA gear comes with him. Based in the Northern Rivers near Byron Bay, he travels nationwide.
