Golonka is a band based in Adelaide, SA.
Golonka have played festival stages to thousands and quiet wedding receptions for a dozen, and you choose the balance between their gentle, emotional pieces and the wild dance numbers. The Adelaide band plays gypsy and Eastern European music with a soulful dance edge, as a four or five-piece: violin, clarinet, accordion, guitar, domra and double bass, with singing. Traditional tunes, their own songs and covers share the set, so Miserlou and Shostakovich's Waltz No. 2 sit near Adjo Jano, Bulgar Freilach and Bowler Hat Tango. Their third album is Cut out the Day, and the credits include a WOMAD appearance in 2013 and a 2016 tour of Japan. Sound can be a full system, a smaller rig for small rooms, or fully acoustic. They need shade in the heat, cover in the wet and power if amplified. Insured for public liability, they travel up to 50 km.
