Gigi Knight is a jazz band based in Perth, WA.
Bossa nova sung in Brazilian Portuguese is part of what Gigi Knight brings, picked up from her time living in Brazil. Around it sit jazz standards from Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole and Billie Holiday, a few detours to Paris and New Orleans, and popular songs given a jazz lilt, from Amy Winehouse, Leonard Cohen, Sting and Madonna to numbers from Moulin Rouge and Cabaret. On the Brazilian side she draws on Jobim, Luiz Bonfá, Sérgio Mendes and both João and Astrud Gilberto. The mood moves between sultry and upbeat. She can perform alone to custom backing tracks, add a guitarist or keys player for a duo, bring in bass or sax to make a trio, or front a band of four or five local players. Restaurants, bars, cafes and clubs suit her, and so do weddings, anniversaries and private soirees.
