Deb Macintyre Jazz is a jazz band based in Perth, WA.
There's gospel in Deb Macintyre's background, and you can hear it in the soulful way she sings jazz standards. Her repertoire runs from earthy blues ballads to upbeat swing and funky jazz, and newer songs have joined it, from Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin to Burt Bacharach, James Taylor and The Carpenters. She counts Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday, Carmen McRae, Anita O'Day and Ella Fitzgerald among her influences. Her own trio is the usual set-up, but she also works as a duo, quartet or quintet, with players who have studied or teach at WAAPA. The combo's bookings take in weddings, gallery openings, corporate functions, Melbourne Cup days, and Christmas and New Year's Eve events, and they've appeared at the Fremantle Arts Festival and the Food and Wine Festival run by the City of Perth. Deb has sung at His Majesty's Theatre too, and at Government House for the Governor-General. She's based in Perth.
