Chasing the Moon

Hot Club jazz is the starting point for Chasing the Moon, swing pushed out into Latin, blues and more modern sounds. Kathy Bluff sings and plays violin, and she leads the band with Paul Burjan on saxophone and flute; the two go back many years as a musical pair. Guitar comes from John Blenkhorn, Garry Steel's piano accordion adds the Parisian feel, and the rhythm section of Mike Quigley on drums and Merv Sequiera on double bass keeps the groove sweet. Solos get passed along the line, and each player has a moment out front. The full band is six, with smaller line-ups from a duo upwards. Eastside Radio, 2MBS FM and ABC Jazz have all played their albums, Nuages and Ooh La La. They've played the jazz festivals at Wagga, Moruya, Dubbo, Newcastle and the Illawarra, and they're often at Leichhardt Bowling Club, Camelot Lounge, Foundry616 and the Sydney Jazz Club. The band is based in Annandale.
