Urban Gypsies

Urban Gypsies can be as fiery or as mellow as the room needs. The Sydney group plays instrumental music that mixes jazz and Latin with world influences, swinging from flashy guitar work down to lounge bossa nova. Line-ups go from one player up to four, so sizing them for a wedding, a cocktail function or a bigger event is simple. Support slots for Cassandra Wilson and Buena Vista Social Club are on their record, as are residencies or concerts at Venue 505, the Seymour Centre, The Basement, Cafe Sydney, Riverside Theatre and The Vanguard, among others. Three albums are out: Gypsy Fever in 2000, Sauvage in 2003 and Beautiful Catastrophe in 2009. Most bookings are weddings, company events, cocktail functions and private celebrations.
