The Bellhops
About
The Bellhops is a rock 'n' roll band based in Sydney, NSW.
Big and brassy sums up The Bellhops. There's a full horn section, and the music spans the late 40s to the 60s: swing and jive, early rock 'n' roll, soul, R&B and blues. Louis Jordan and Big Joe Turner sit in the set beside Ray Charles, James Brown and Wilson Pickett, with Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Haley and Chuck Berry too. It's music for a themed party, or a wedding where the guests want to jive. Ian Dittman sings, John Russell handles slide and rhythm guitar, and Steve Lovarini and Mark Roulston are the rhythm section. In 2003 they won Band of the Year at the Australian Blues Awards, and their album No Reservations took Blues Album of the Year. Sydney is home, and they're regulars around Wollongong, Newcastle, the Central Coast and the Southern Highlands. They've also played ski fields in Victoria, resorts at Byron Bay and wineries out at Mudgee and Wagga Wagga.
