Sunroom

Sunroom began with Rory Dollard and Kaya Tominaga singing rainy-day songs in a sunroom, and that cosy feel has stayed. Rory plays guitar with a nostalgic touch and Kaya sings in a wistful voice, and the two trade off with each other all night. The set mixes jazz standards, contemporary songs and their own originals, a little melancholy, about love, lovers and laundromats. Billie Holiday is at one end of the repertoire and Esperanza Spalding at the other. Both are full-time musicians. Amplification comes with them; power is the one thing to arrange. The Brisbane duo is insured and travels nationwide.
