StrungOut is a string ensemble based in Perth, WA.
StrungOut take the soul, pop and rock songs everyone knows and hand them to a cello, a viola and a double bass, with a singer leading. The songs have been reworked for strings, so a crowd hears familiar hits in a sound that's a bit unexpected but still hits hard. Singer Tim Hood came up with the idea and brought in arrangers Timothy Kraemer and Bill Thorp to rework the songs. The arrangements have gone overseas with him. Perth has its own StrungOut, and Tim also leads versions of the group in Madrid and London. It suits a formal dinner or a wedding where you'd like strings but don't want the whole night to sound classical.
