Oye Como Va, Evil Ways, Smooth and Black Magic Woman all get played the way Santana fans want to hear them. Soul Sacrifice formed in Melbourne in 2012 to play Santana's music as faithfully as possible, and the seven-piece covers every era, from Latin rock and funk to Latin jazz and Latin soul. Dave Tohill's lead guitar sits out front, Rick Correnza sings lead and Milton Villarreal plays keys. The rhythm section is big: Leo Ramos on drums, Andrew Tsindos on bass, Miguel Aravena on timbales, bongos and bells, and Elvis Aljus on congas and percussion. It's a high-energy show that works for a crowd who barely know the catalogue as well as for the devotees. Melbourne audiences have seen them at the Federation Square Community Festival and the Eltham Jazz Festival, and in rooms like Birds Basement, Oakleigh Music Hall, Memo Music Hall and the Olympic Hotel.
