Soul Cupcake is a cover band based in Melbourne, VIC.
Picture the horn-driven funk of Tower of Power crossed with Stevie Wonder, Sharon Jones, The Bamboos and a little Snarky Puppy, and you're close to the Soul Cupcake sound. The Melbourne band's arrangements are intricate, so they need serious players. At full strength it's eight. Adam Donaldson drums, Lucas Wentworth plays bass, Adam Orlando is on guitar and Adam Rudegeair on keys, with Greg Day on bari sax, Tarko Sibbel on alto and Daimon Brunton on trumpet making up the horns, and Rocky Loprevite out front singing. Smaller versions suit smaller rooms: seven without guitar, six without the bari, or a four-piece of vocals, keys, bass and drums. Every format plays three 45-minute sets, which gives a wedding or company party a full evening of funk and soul to plan around.
