Richard de Grijs

Captain Cook's crews, the race to Antarctica and the far edge of the universe all turn up in Richard de Grijs's talks. He's a historian and storyteller who draws on international work across science, history, leadership and public engagement to make complicated subjects easy to follow. His featured keynotes are The Race to Antarctica; Captain Cook and Health at Sea, about life aboard ship in the Age of Sail; The Sound of Silence, on how astronomers turn the cosmos into sound; and a 26-step tour of the cosmos out to its furthest reaches. Keynotes run 45 to 60 minutes plus questions, with lecture series and after-dinner talks also on offer. On the tech side, plan for a screen or projector, HDMI, sound for video clips, plus a lectern and mic in larger rooms. Sydney-based, he travels nationwide and holds a current NSW Working With Children Check.
