One player, a guitar, a slide resonator and two stomping feet. Reverend Billy Blues keeps time with a bass and snare worked by foot, so the whole Delta sound comes from a single performer, played live with nothing pre-recorded behind it. The inspiration goes back to the early masters: Son House, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Mississippi Fred McDowell and Scrapper Blackwell. The vocals are raw and full of feeling, but the show is meant to be fun, too. For a bar, a brewery afternoon or a party where people like their music rough around the edges, it's a strong pick.
