Macleod

The Irish uilleann pipes are the centre of a Macleod booking, alongside wooden flute and tin whistle. Everything is traditional and instrumental, largely from Ireland with a few Scottish tunes, covering laments, airs and marches as well as reels, slides and jigs. Solo or duo bookings usually call for the slow, haunting pieces, for a wedding ceremony or a funeral or wake, while the livelier jigs for a pub night are normally a trio job. Expect a conversation first about what you want, and even about dress, whether formal, casual or in period costume. It can be played fully acoustic or through a small PA for a little reverb on the pipes. With the venue's PA, two microphones and stands are needed, plus an armless chair. Shelter from extreme weather matters, because heat, cold and humidity all affect the reeds in the pipes. Based in Tooborac, travels nationwide.
