Kuma Kaaru

Kuma Kaaru can open your event the traditional way, with a Welcome to Country and a Smoking Ceremony, then follow it with dance. Jack Kanya Kudnuitya Buckskin started the Aboriginal-owned group in 2008, and it's based on Kaurna Yarta in Adelaide. The name means One Blood in the Kaurna language. Their dances include the Marni Tuwila (Welcome) Dance, the Kaali (Boomerang) Dance, the Nantu or Tarnta (Kangaroo) Dance and the Makanthi, a shake-a-leg show-off dance, with storytelling that links land, sea, sky and spirit. They've performed at the Adelaide Oval and WOMADelaide. For organisations wanting more than a performance, they also run cultural awareness training, workshops and tours.
