Just Us Girls

Jazz standards, soul and swing, with a few jazz-pop songs of their own slipped in: that's a set from Just Us Girls, a five-piece female band. The players met through the Elder Conservatorium of Music at the University of Adelaide and the Adelaide College of the Arts. Most of them double up. Izzy Daramell sings and swaps between keys, guitar and bass, Shania Trisha moves from sax to bass, keys or guitar, and Elizabeth Ling sings with a guitar in hand. Crystal Kinloch-Hurcombe brings trumpet and percussion, while Mardi Hogan keeps time on drums. Their influences run from Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Julie London to Nina Simone, Sade, Amy Winehouse and the Dave Brubeck Quartet. The sound is classic and warm, just right behind cocktails or a dinner.
