Joe Man Murphy

Folk and roots songs told as stories are what Joe Man Murphy brings to a room, with a big voice carrying them and plenty of skill on the instruments underneath. It's a show that pulls listeners in rather than playing in the background, so save it for a crowd that came for the songs. He grew up in England and now calls Brisbane home. The festival circuit knows him well: Woodford, Palm Creek and the National Folk Festival are all on the list. He founded Gypsy Rumble, a theatrical folk band that toured nationally and staged shows he wrote at the Adelaide Fringe. He also spent years in The Timbers, co-writing two of their albums and touring widely with them.
