Funk sits underneath everything Gervase sings. The New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter mixes rock, jazz, funk and acoustic styles and delivers them with a big, emotive voice. His early heroes were James Brown, Led Zeppelin and Michael Jackson, and in 2009 he stepped out front of an eight-piece James Brown tribute band. Solo, he plays guitar and uses looping to fill out the sound. The covers list is long on soul and groove, with Lovely Day, Ain't No Sunshine, Could You Be Loved, Locked Out of Heaven, Ain't Nobody and Stand By Me among them, plus Mr Jones and Steal My Kisses. It's a warm, danceable set for a wedding or a party that likes a bit of funk in its music. He travels anywhere in Victoria.
