Gerard can follow a wedding from start to finish: a heartfelt song for the aisle, easy acoustic tunes while the canapés go round, then a push to get people dancing at the reception. He sings and plays guitar with a smooth, soulful style. What sets him apart is his stripped-back acoustic take on well-known R&B songs, mixed in with classic and modern covers. Solo, it's just voice and guitar. A duo adds harmonies, percussion or keys, and the trio brings piano, guitar and vocals together as a small live band. He also DJs, so a solo or duo set can hand over to a DJ set that runs after the live music ends. He's based in Cheltenham, in Melbourne's south-east.
