Detour West is a musical duo based in Yeppoon, QLD.
Country, blues, folk, pop and reggae all turn up in a Detour West set, and the Yeppoon duo don't worry much about where one style stops and the next begins. Karen Hunt plays guitar, Steve Packer plays harmonica, and both of them sing. Everything is played live. The covers can surprise you: Tom Waits next to Linda Ronstadt, Memphis Minnie after The Cure, Stray Cats, Joni Mitchell, Paul Kelly and Old Crow Medicine Show. Their own songs sit in the mix as well, and they're strong enough to hold their place beside the covers. Under their old name, Short & Curly, they racked up more than 1,200 gigs in Western Australia, then shifted east to Queensland in 2024. They bring an EV50 tower sound system and lighting, so you just supply power, plus shade outdoors. They'll travel up to 500 km.
