Education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children is the cause Cathy Freeman took up after her running career, co-founding a foundation to open up opportunities for them. Before that, she lit the cauldron at the opening of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, then won gold in the 400 metres, and across her athletics career she also collected Commonwealth Games gold medals and world titles.
