Every Saturday, Athol plays at Cloudland in Brisbane, and he's been building his record collection for close to 30 years. His sets travel. Soulful, deep and jazzy house sits beside disco and edits, Italo and nu disco, Afro, acid jazz and Brazilian, and he's just as likely to pull out rare jazz-funk and boogie before moving into forward-looking house. The blends are smooth, and the lines between genres tend to disappear. He can keep things warm and laid-back early on or push a dance floor hard later, which suits a bar or a party that starts slow and ends late.
