A Children's Book Experience with a Real Assistance Dog

Hedwig is the guest of honour here, a working Assistance Dog who sits in during a live reading of a picture book written about dogs like him. The session is made for Prep to Grade 2 classes, and it works in a library or an early learning centre as well as a primary school classroom or a community event. After the reading, the children talk through what Assistance Dogs do and why they wear vests, then learn how to behave around one: calm voices, plenty of space, and no patting while he's on duty. There's time for questions at the end. All you need is a quiet indoor room with the kids seated where they can see the book. The session runs out of Gawler, with travel of up to 50 km, and the presenter has an SA Working with Children Check.
